Community market features voluntary groups

A market in Kettering is being held this weekend to showcase local groups and the work they do to help the community.

The Kettering Community Summer Market is being held in the Market Place on Saturday 8 June.

Organised by Kettering Town Council, local charities, voluntary organisations and community groups were eligible to apply for a free stall at the event.

Stalls will be fundraising, selling their products as well as giving people information about how they can volunteer and get involved.

The event is also part of The Big Help Out, which has been set up to help promote volunteering opportunities and spread awareness about what is out there in local communities.

Cllr Craig Skinner, Mayor of Kettering and Chair of the Markets and Events Committee, said: "The summer market is a chance to celebrate all the good work that is being done by charities and voluntary groups in the town. Come and find out what is happening, support the groups and sign up to help as part of Volunteering Week."

There are 17 local groups attending on Saturday, including Kettering Community Unit, The Compassionate Friends UK, Cardiac Risk in the Young, Kettering Kosmos WI, Citizens Advice Corby and Kettering, North Northants First Responders, Kettering Complementary Therapy Group, Cransley Hospice Trust, Kettering Nature Group, Off the Streets NN CIC, Corby & District Cats Protection, Kettering Freemasons, Kettering Mind, Accommodation Concern, Toller Church, Northamptonshire Domestic Abuse Service and Kettering St John Ambulance.

As well as the stalls there will be live music throughout the day.
